Shubham Gupta, secured 17th position in All India Ranking (AIR)
JAIPUR: Shubham Gupta, who secured 17th position in All India Ranking (AIR) and topped JEE Advanced 2018 in Jaipur could not stop smiling on Sunday. He had hoped to do well in the entrance exam but never expected to be the city topper.
“My dream was to study at IIT Bombay and I had been working hard for it for the past three years. I am glad I have got this opportunity and looking forward to be there,’’ said Shubham, a student of Cambridge Court High School.

Shubham was a regular in his Allen Coaching classes for complete two years. He attributed the success to his family members and teachers who motivated him every time. Even if he didn’t score well in any regular tests held in the coaching institute, they’ve always encouraged him to do better next time. He also drew inspiration from one of the elderly friends living in his colony who is from one of the IITs.
Shubham said, “I joined the coaching classes in standard IX and was initially quite casual. However, gradually my performance got better and I decided to dedicate myself to the goal. For the past two years, I have only been concentrating on my studies without letting my mind to wander. ”
Shubham skipped birthday parties and hangouts with friends during this period. “I used social media apps only for study purposes and did not use them for fun. Whenever I needed a break, I would listen to music,” he revealed.
He believes that one should never shy away from raising doubts or asking questions to their teachers in front of friends. “Several students keep quiet, sometimes out of fear. That should not be the case,’’ he said. He also advised friends who were preparing for IIT-aspirants, telling them to attend coaching classes regularly and keep a proper balance between self-study and classroom study.
